Florida is a hotbed for Police killings

Florida SCLC is calling a press conference to alert the State of Florida Police and Sheriff’s to inform them that SCLC will not stand by and allow them to killed unarmed people just because their race.  “From Escambia County across to Duval County to Orange County, Miami-Ft Lauderdale, over to the sun Coast region of Bradenton, St. Petersburg-Tampa and other areas… We will not continue to stand by and allow you to kill our people.  As an example, Escambia County and other counties are similar to Ferguson, Missouri in that they do not hire minorities as deputies.  In many instances, this is the case because the head Sheriff disrespects minorities.  Additionally, this can happen to other demographics that do not look a certain way. This is the case with many Caucasian students that have alternative hair styles, dress different, and ride bicycles.  Colleges in areas of Florida are losing students due to the harassment of policemen in what otherwise could be booming small town college areas.” Art Rocker, Chairman of Florida SCLC

Rocker continues, “We are going to report all of these counties immediately to the Justice Department to evaluate why minorities are not being hired?  Why in certain communities are Asian –Indians being targeted for crime and robbery? Why are there not culture sensitivity courses designed on a quarterly basis for law enforcers? We are requesting a DOJ Hot-Line for information concerning the issues of sexual misconduct, trafficking of drugs, and incarcerated females and males having sex with law enforcers after being released for favors while they were in prison.  Also, we are asking DOJ to fund a Hot Line that provides information concerning nepotism that usually exists in the enforcement divisions all over American. Primarily, in many cases this benefits the leadership in these target areas.  SCLC will not stand by and allow Sheriff’s in counties to actively support candidates with their uniforms on for the purposes of Intimidating Voters. Furthermore, why is there funding being requested for jails with inflated costs and when they receive the funds they misappropriate them?  Many of these issues have come to light in Ferguson, MO and have been told to SCLC by various people.  We are requesting that new a Hot Line be made available for these areas as well as areas where Black on Black crime is occurring so that people will report the perpetrators’ on the national level rather than local.
