Normally a runner, Allison picked up an injury part of the way through her 2014 Macmillan Fundraising Challenge, which she is doing in conjunction with her husband Steve Bonthrone, and has dusted off her bike to maintain her fitness levels and to keep up her commitment to Macmillan. A commitment for which she has already raised £3500 this year so far.
Together the couple hope to raise £10,000 for the charity this year and are already well on their way to hitting that target.
“I had set myself the challenge of running 3 marathons this year but when I got injured I needed to find some other way to continue with my fundraising. When I heard about Macmillan Cycletta at Scone Palace it seemed the perfect event and I quickly signed up. Cycling has been a fantastic way to keep up my fitness levels.
“I'm fundraising for Macmillan because I lost my grandparents and, more recently, my father-in-law to cancer. I’ve also seen friends and colleagues battle this terrible disease. Macmillan do wonderful work in ensuring that nobody faces their fight alone and were there to support the people close to me. I want to help raise vital funds so they can continue to support families and make a real difference to the lives of everyone affected.”
Shirlie Geddes, Angus & Tayside Fundraising Manager for Macmillan has been working closely over the last year with Allison in supporting her fundraising challenge. Commenting on Allison’s decision to take part in Cycletta Scotland, Shirlie said:
“It’s fantastic that Allison has decided to take part in Cycletta Scotand this year. It really is a great event, raises lots of money for Macmillan and it’s a fabulous way of encouraging young ladies and women of all fitness abilities to come together and do something positive.”
This year ladies aged 12 and upwards will be able to take part and have a choice of 20km, 40km, 70km or 100km routes.
