Philly Maker Week to Take Place September 17 to 21

The Maker movement is alive and humming in Philadelphia. Philly Maker Week attempts to unite various groups of maker communities across the city.

PRLog - Aug. 19, 2014 - PHILADELPHIA -- If you haven't yet heard of the Maker movement, you might be living under a rock.  Makers comprise a wide array of individuals, both hobbyists and business-owners, who make or produce goods.  Some incorporate cutting-edge technologies like 3-D printing, some harken back to the days of old by using traditional blacksmith or metal techniques and others have a more art and craft approach.  Philadelphia is home to a large number of makers across a wide variety of mediums.

Philly Maker Week hopes to unite these various groups for a Maker Week from September 17 to 21.  Individual brick and mortar spaces will host maker events, ranging from product demonstrations to informational meet ups with makers.

The week is highlighted by a Maker Networking Party on September 18 from 6 to 9pm at the Center for Architecture.  The party is hosted by DesignPhiladelphia and will feature a maker panel discussion, a maker video series screening by local videographer Cory Popp and a Maker PopUp in the AIA shop.  The cost is $10 through September 1 and tickets can be purchased at:  http://phillymakerweek.ticketleap.com/philly-maker-weekne...

Organizers of Philly Maker Week include Philadelphia Small Business Lawyer Sarah E. Holmes, Angie Hilem, Marketing & Communications Specialist at NextFab Studio and Cory Donovan, Incubator Manager at Project Liberty Digital Incubator.  The organizers hope this year's event is a catalyst for a larger, expanded event in 2015.  Details about events organized during Maker Week can be found at: www.phillymakerweek.com.
