Capital Hoedown Promoter Denis Benoit Settles Defamation Lawsuit Against Blogger

Greg Harris has made a formal apology on his website to Capital Hoedown founder Denis Benoit over false claims made in a blog post.
 
OTTAWA, Ontario - Aug. 16, 2014 - PRLog -- Capital Hoedown Promoter, Denis Benoit, has reached an undisclosed out-of-court settlement against Ottawa Blogger, Greg Harris, better known as “Lefty McRighty”, over a blog post criticizing Benoit’s administration of Capital Hoedown 2012.

The lawsuit was filed by Benoit’s lawyer, Jonathan Collings of Low Murchison Radnoff LLP, at the Superior Court of Justice, asking the the court to award Benoit the sum of $250,000 in damages for the libelous publication.

Greg Harris retracted the “defamatory and untrue” statements that began in June 2012 in an apology displayed on his website. “Mr. Benoit has been a successful concert and festival promoter for over ten years, and previously presented the Ottawa community with two highly successful editions of Capital Hoedown,” said Greg Harris. “I would like to retract the statements I made about Denis Benoit, which were defamatory and untrue, and I sincerely apologize for the harm my comments have caused.”
