Monika Olko Gallery Hosts Artist Opening Reception

The Event Will Benefit Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Center’s Southampton Satellite Office

PRLog - Aug. 14, 2014 - BAY SHORE, N.Y. -- Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Center, Inc. (http://www.adrcinc.org/) (ADRC) has announced that, on August 23, Monika Olko Gallery will sponsor a fundraising event to benefit ADRC from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The gallery will showcase the works of American artist Dean Johnson and his exhibit “Living Legends.”

Mr. Johnson, a third-generation artist, will introduce his latest works featuring iconic figures in “living pieces.” These are mixed media, always changing LED lights and art panels composed of plexi-resin, pigmented inks, film and encaustic wax dyed with oil paints. Mr. Johnson began painting at the age of seven by his father’s side. He soon established his reputation in New York at the age of 18 with his own unique style. When he was 22, he was featured in a one-man art show at the famed Stricoff Gallery in Soho — the youngest artist at the time to have a show in Soho. Mr. Johnson cites modern artists Frank Stella and Joan Mitchell as his main influences.

This exhibit and fundraiser — which will run from August 23 to September 12 — has special meaning to Mr. Johnson, who lost his grandfather to Alzheimer’s disease.

The Monika Olko Gallery is located at 95 Main Street in Sag Harbor. Mr. Johnson’s artwork will be on sale at the exhibit, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting ADRC’s satellite office, located at 33 Flying Point Road, Southampton, NY. The Southampton location opened in 2011 to provide services for East End residents with Alzheimer’s disease and their families who may otherwise have to travel great distances to receive such assistance.

For more information about this event, please call Wafa Faith Hallam, Art Curator and Gallery Manager, at (631) 899-4740. For more information on ADRC, please visit www.adrcinc.org, or call 1-855-732-4500
