New Radiation Oncologists to Practice in Scottsdale

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Aug. 14, 2014 - PRLog -- 21^st Century Oncology of Arizona, part of the nation’s largest radiation therapy provider, announces the addition of two physicians in Scottsdale. Board Certified Radiation Oncologists Ajay Bhatnagar, M.D., MBA and Vershalee Shukla, M.D. will now be treating patients at 21^st Century Oncology’s cancer treatment center in Scottsdale.

With a background in biomedical engineering, Dr. Bhatnagar has a broad range of experience in new cancer care technologies. He has written numerous publications, specifically regarding the modern technological developments in radiation oncology. Dr. Bhatnagar is a leading physician who pioneered electronic brachytherapy for the treatment of skin cancer since its inception.

Dr. Bhatnagar has received numerous awards, including the prestigious Edgar H. Hernandez Humanitarian Award from the Desert Cancer Foundation of Arizona as a result of his volunteer work to expand access to community cancer care. He serves on the Casa Grande Regional Medical Center Foundation Board, which helps fund prevention education, community outreach and charity care.

Dr. Shukla has made a name for herself in the Phoenix and Scottsdale areas working in a multispecialty community-based private practice for the past two years.  During this time, she pursued her strong interest in brain cancer research and worked with local physicians to study radiation necrosis through carbon acetate PET.

In the past 10 years, Dr. Shukla has won nine awards, including first prize at the University Of Alberta College of Medicine Resident Research Day and NCCN Resident Travel Award. In this time, she also co-authored more than 20 publications, abstracts and textbook chapters about various radiation oncology topics.
