Jumping into a Mud Run Adventure—Literally

By: Finger Lakes Mud Run

AUBURN, N.Y. - Aug. 13, 2014 - PRLog -- When's the last time you jumped into a mud puddle? Really jumped, that is? Eyed it from a distance, gauged its depth, got a running start, felt that sudden burst of adrenaline as your feet left the ground and you soared through the air, a defiant grin on your face as you came crashing down into a slippery, squishy, wet mess of mud, dirt, and probably some worms? Knowing you weren't supposed to be out in the mud and the rain, but sneaking outside anyway, because the forbidden thrill of discovering the biggest, deepest, grossest puddle out there and NOT playing in it was too much to bear?

For some of us, the answer is last week, of course. But for the other 99% of us forced to leave our blissful childhood pastimes behind as we assimilate into the pristine environments of adulthood, such joy may be nothing more than a vague memory clutching at the edge of our subconscious, waiting to be revisited.

Thankfully, we can now look to the 2014 Finger Lakes Mud Run at Everest Park on September 27th to set us free. The Finger Lakes Mud Run is the ideal solution for mud run experts and novices alike, as it gifts them with the opportunity to experience that elusive joy of childhood yet again. Some of these mud runners often spend hours training and preparing for this extreme adventure, ready to overcome the intense obstacles and endure the brutal elements to conquer the challenging courses. For others, this preparation involves a little more than just putting on galoshes and rain jackets. But mud runners should be prepared to scale walls, climb rocky terrain, burrow through tunnels, and wade through mud pits—a little more than your average walk in the rain. Therefore, to adequately prepare for such an endeavor, mud runners should take advantage of any and all opportunities to train, especially to avoid injuries.

It would be to mud runners' advantage to master the type of athletic skills they'll need to master the course. Workouts such as cross training, endurance training, and strength training can help mud enthusiasts reach their goals more effectively and potentially reduce the risk of injury. Additionally, the appropriate gear, such as spandex, warm layers, and gloves can help keep mud runners warm, dry, and protect their delicate hands while attempting those gritty obstacles.

Mud lovers, take note: you may also want to come extra prepared with supplies on hand. We know you love getting dirty, but we're betting that drive home would be a lot more pleasant with some soap, shampoo, towels, and a spare change of clothes on hand. We're also betting your cheering squad might think so, too, especially if you didn't take separate cars.

Here at the Finger Lakes Mud Run, we're counting down the days to the most epic of all mud puddles. For more information, visit www.fingerlakesmudrun.com or check us out on Facebook.
