Kurtis Blow the event's co-producer and star of the movie said "The Krush Groove Reunion Concert was conceived for one purpose, which is to bring back the feel good vibe that Hip Hop music has given to so many people during the Golden Era. I wanted to produce a concert that would allow people who saw the movie to relive the great music that was produced during this important era of Hip Hop Culture." The concert is also a fundraiser to benefit the development of the Universal Hip Hop Museum, which will launch online later this year followed by the construction of a brick and mortar facility in the South Bronx where the art form was created by 2017. “The Bronx and the global community deserve a museum that respectfully preserves the rich culture and dynamic legacy of Hip Hop and guides the future of the art form. The vision of our founding members is to have a cultural institution located in the Bronx, that achieves that goal”, states Rocky Bucano, president of the museum. “This benefit concert at BB King in Times Square is the first in a series of planned fundraisers that will be held around the country to support the museum's development plan. The mission of the Universal Hip Hop Museum (UHHM) is to honor the history of Hip-Hop Culture, its leaders and visionaries and to serve as a global institution that informs and encourages educational and cultural understanding of the art form throughout the world.
