Rubber Gasket – An Integral Part Of Machineries

It is all About the rubber gaskets from Rubber Manufactures and Suppliers

CHENNAI, India - Aug. 13, 2014 - PRLog -- Rubber gaskets are specified form of mechanical seals that are primarily used to prevent leakage of gases, vapours and liquids in machinery parts. They act as barriers between two planes to maintain a seal at high temperatures and pressures.   Rubber Gaskets make a vast difference in the operation of many industrial machines and are widely used in textile, automobile and engineering industries that handle mechanical parts.

Rubber gaskets are of various shapes and sizes and designed by a number of materials to perform sealing functions.  The most common materials that are used in the manufacture of these gaskets include Teflon, silicon, neoprene, Ethylene Propylene (EP), Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) and Viton.

The various types of rubber gaskets range from heat resistant, industrial and high temperature rubber gaskets. They can be custom manufactured in four methods namely hand cut, die cut, water jet and rubber moulding.  Apart from this, non-metallic gaskets and lathe cut rubber can be made to order.  Some of the most common rubber gaskets are flange rubber gaskets, insulator rubber gaskets, spiral wound rubber gaskets, jacketed rubber gaskets, extruded rubber gaskets and custom moulded rubber gaskets.

O-rings is also a special type of rubber gasket made of silicone or synthetic rubber that are used for industrial and commercial purposes on pipes and other applications.  These gaskets are robust enough to handle extreme corrosion and are pressure concomitant with gasket applications.  They can also be used with other rubber materials, wood and even metals.  However it is necessary to incorporate a sealant to ensure a solid seal.

Rubber gaskets are designed in such a way so that they can be easily fitted in between two parts of a machine. The process involves compressing the rubber gaskets, creating a seal and filling the microscopic spaces.  The working of the gasket depends on how strong the compression is.  However, if the pressure on the seal is inadequate, the gasket will slip from its position making way for other impurities to enter. For this reason, a hot compression test is always done to check whether the gasket is able to withstand extreme pressure conditions.   Thus, the rubber gaskets help to keep the enclosures free of dust and impurities and facilitate the machines to last longer and work faster by giving a steady performance.
