Local Veggies Storm the Crepe Cellar Menu

Charlotte restaurant, Crepe Cellar, teams up with Poplar Ridge Farm to bring droves of locally-grown veggies to the menu.
 
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Aug. 12, 2014 - PRLog -- Crepe Cellar Kitchen & Pub has now started sourcing fresh, local vegetables from nearby Poplar Ridge Farm.

Poplar Ridge Farm is located just 24 miles from Charlotte. Family-owned and managed, the farm is also proud to be a USDA certified organic farm. The family business offers produce and flower memberships, weekly online orders, and an open to the public on-farm market stand.

Finally, Poplar Ridge Farm offers deliveries to Charlotte metro restaurants. And that’s where Crepe Cellar comes in.

After learning about the local farm’s offerings, the small NoDa restaurant saw an opportunity to improve their menu, and give their chefs access to local produce to make more seasonal specials.

“Vegetables are a huge part of nearly every dish we make,” says Jeff Tonidandel, one of the owners of Crepe Cellar. “From our daily soups and vegetable sides to our very popular seafood specials, vegetables help brighten up and bring flavor across our menu.”

What’s really neat about the partnership is Crepe Cellar doesn’t always know the types of vegetables that will be dropped off from the local farm. To the restaurant staff, this brings a fun, welcomed challenge to figure out interesting, unique specials to make with the seasonal basket of vegetables.

Several recent specials off the Crepe Cellar menu created by the Chef include:

‣Fairytale Eggplant and smoked heirloom tomato succotash

‣Summer salad with grilled red onions, Roma tomatoes and basil with a balsamic reduction

‣Zephyr Squash sautéed with basil

‣Sunday brunch omelet with cured ivory salmon, Malabar spinach, shallots, tomatoes and chevre

‣Mussels with roasted red peppers, lime, garlic and beer

‣Golden Beet Borscht

Says Tonidandel of Crepe Cellar about the move to partner with Poplar Ridge, “We’re lucky to have a certified organic farm right near the Charlotte area, and we’re excited to elevate our dishes to an even higher level with fresh, unique vegetables that are full of flavor.”

The restaurant keeps customers apprised of daily specials - including vegetable specials - via twitter and facebook.
