Dante knew at a very young age that he “always wanted to be a cowboy.” His childhood dream came true through the many film and television roles he was later to be cast in. Michael has appeared, co-starred and starred in approximately 30 feature films and 150 television shows, under contract to three major studios; MGM, Warner Bros. and 20th Century Fox. Dante was a former professional baseball player before his acting career, in spring training with the Washington Senators. Band leader Tommy Dorsey gave Michael his first break and as Tommy said to Michael, “I helped another guy in Hollywood to achieve his goals and his name was Frank Sinatra and he did OK!”
Some of Dante’s films include his classic title role in Winterhawk, Kid Galahad, Arizona Raiders, Apache Rifles, Westbound, Seven Thieves, The Naked Kiss, Cage and Willard. Michael Dante’s latest film, Unbelievable!!!!!
Along the way, Dante has accumulated accolades and honors including the Golden Boot Award – The Oscar of Westerns, Silver Spur Award – the Golden Globe of Westerns, Southern California Motion Picture Council Award – Best of the Best in the Performing Arts, Spirit of the West Award by the Western Gazette and Bison Museum. At the Superstition Mountain Museum in Apache Junction, Arizona, Michael’s boot prints are embedded in cement and autographed, the moccasins he wore in Winterhawk and a portrait of Winterhawk are on permanent display. He received the first Apacheland Spirit Award at the Gold Canyon Film Festival in Gold Canyon, Arizona, and was honored with a Sidewalk Star on the Walk of Stars in Palm Springs, California. Michael Dante was the guest of honor at Audie Murphy Days in Greenville, Texas at the Audie Murphy American Cotton Museum. Michael co-starred in two films with Audie Murphy, Arizona Raiders and Apache Rifles.’ He was the 2014 Honoree of the Year by the Order Sons of Italy in America in conjunction with the Dolly Sinatra Lodge in Palm Springs, California.
‘MICHAEL DANTE WAY’ – In 2011, a well-traveled, major street in his hometown of Stamford, Connecticut, was named after its most famous son.
In the 1990s, Dante hosted his own radio show with the top names in entertainment and sports, ‘The Michael Dante Classic Celebrity Talk Show” in Palm Springs, California for 12 years. On his radio show, Michael interviewed 300 classic actors, actresses and entertainers and top stars from the world of professional sports in baseball, golf, tennis, football and basketball.
Dante has continued to stay in the public eye and attends Star Trek Conventions, Annual Western Film Festivals, Bonanza Round-Up, the Memphis Film Festival and All-Category Actors Conventions throughout the country, signing autographs and meeting and greeting his fans. Michael’s fan appreciation throughout the years has been stellar.
