This years event would be no different as members of Pennsylvania Combat Sports << http://www.pacombatsports.com >> would make the trip to Chicago, two years in a row.
For Westmoreland County resident, Johnny Boswell, he would be stepping onto the mats as BJJ Blue belt this year (after competing and earning silver as a white belt in 2013).
Using a newer technique known as the "worm guard", Boswell was able to capitalize on his opponents lack of experience with the "worm", and rack up several wins.
While meeting a loss in the finals of his weight class and once again earning the Silver for his middleweight division, Johnny prepared mentally for the Absolute (all weight classes) division, in which only those who medal in weight divisions are eligible to compete.
In the Absolute (sometimes referred to as the "open" class) he came back determined to secure the Gold. Meeting an ultra heavyweight BJJ competitor (at 300 pounds and 6' 2") in the finals, Johnny (at only 176lbs and 5' 10") would utilize a series of attacks to weaken his opponents left arm, eventually securing the arm bar submission and the Gold medal in his absolute division!
While he continues his quest for a Double Gold IBJJF performance, its safe to say he's not far from realizing this goal.
So its back to training Monday at Pennsylvania Combat Sports in Greensburg, Pa. and preparing for upcoming tournaments in Boston, Los Angeles, and Miami.
