Follow on Google News | Council on Aging of Volusia Receives Meals on Wheels AwardBy: Cathy Coats “There were over 350 local celebrations involving over 2,600 Community Champions nationwide,” Subaru of America, Inc., a National Sponsor of the campaign, supported 200 MOW member programs and one state association with $294,000 – nearly double the grants for 2013. In Volusia County, 38 Community Champion volunteers served over 260 meals to homebound seniors across the county. There was also a pet food drive by Warner Christian Academy seniors, handmade greeting cards by a group of Colony in the Wood residents to deliver with the meals, and eight WORC clients who spent the day visiting and assisting seniors at the Holly Hill Dining site. COA’s Nutrition Program Staff insured all meals were ready to go. COA was established under the Older Americans Act by the Federal Department of Health and Human Services. COA is a “Lead Agency,” designated by the State of Florida as a service agency directly tasked with the health and welfare of senior citizens. For more than 45 years, COA has been the authority on Aging Services, and one of the largest service agencies in northeast Florida.
