Berean Christian School Ranks in Top 50 Nationwide

Knoxville Private School Named One of the Best Christian High Schools in America

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Aug. 8, 2014 - PRLog -- Berean Christian School (BCS) was recently ranked by TheBestSchools.org as one of 50 best Christian high schools in America. Berean Christian School was one of just three Tennessee schools to make the list and the only school in East Tennessee to achieve the ranking.

Berean Christian School was established nearly 35 years ago in Knoxville and today serves the faith-based educational needs of nearly 400 students in kindergarten through 12th grade.

According to TheBestSchools.org site, there are 12,000 private high schools across the country and the majority are religiously affiliated or explicitly Christian.

Criteria for inclusion on the list of top schools included:

Co-ed day schools

Extracurricular opportunities (fine arts, athletics, social activities)

Geographic and demographic diversity

Integrity of faith component

Other factors that were taken into consideration for top school ranking were parent and student reviews on issues such as bullying, parent/teacher cooperation, and administrative commitment to student success.

“For families with students at Christian high schools, the overriding concern is to provide a rounded education that gives due respect to academics, but refuses to idolize it, instead always holding faith at the center” -- Via TheBestSchools.org.

Berean Christian School has implemented an academic program that stresses excellence with a biblical worldview. The curriculum is fully aligned with state benchmarks and national standards.

In addition to the accredited academic program, Berean Christian School incorporates daily Bible classes and a weekly chapel program. Students participate in a wide variety of service projects, including high school students ministering to the lower grades.

A fall retreat offers students the opportunity for fellowship and to grow spiritually while setting the tone for the school year. Students are given the chance to participate in many extracurricular activities as well, including yearbook, drama, music, band and art programs.

Berean students also have the choice of school athletics (swimming, basketball, soccer, volleyball, cross country) as well as football, softball, or baseball through a co-op arrangement with another local school.

Another point of pride for Berean is its SOAR program, which is tailored to the needs of students with reading or learning difficulties. Berean Christian School is committed to the success of each student and the SOAR program is just another way that faculty and administrators can ensure a variety of different learning needs are met.

Berean is accredited by the Association of Christian Schools International and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The school is a ministry of Berean Bible Church, and is also a member of the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association.

“We’re so honored to have been included on this list of top schools,” said George Waller, headmaster of Berean Christian School. “In my 30 year career as a counselor and educator, I’ve learned that each student has unique strengths and talents and we want to create an atmosphere where they can learn and thrive while getting their educational and spiritual needs met.”

Choosing the right private school involves the consideration of quite a few factors, including budget, the specific learning needs of each child, extracurricular activities, facilities, student-teacher ratios, and the education level of teachers—to name a few.
