Chamber spotlights Colonial Courtyard at Tyrone’s new memory care program

“Life Stories, Past, Present and Personal” will be topic of August 14 breakfast event

TYRONE, PA., Pa. - Aug. 8, 2014 - PRLog -- Colonial Courtyard at Tyrone’s new Life Stories memory care community will be highlighted during a Tyrone Area Chamber of Commerce breakfast at 7:30 a.m. on August 14 at the Bull Pen Restaurant, 207 Jefferson Avenue.

Colonial Courtyard at Tyrone Executive Director Danielle Corrigan, PCHA, MPA, will be the featured speaker. Corrigan is a graduate of Tyrone Area High School and Penn State University. Her presentation will be entitled: “Life Stories, Past Present and Personal at Colonial Courtyard – Our Memory Care Community.”

The memory care community officially will open at Colonial Courtyard at Tyrone in September.

“Life Stories is an exceptional option for seniors with memory impairments, one that provides maximum comfort for residents and peace of mind for families,” Corrigan said.

The Life Stories neighborhood features a state-of-the art environment designed for specific needs of seniors with Alzheimer’s or related dementias. Residents enjoy a relaxing home that also makes an inviting destination for family members.

Life Stories features both a customized environment and a service model designed to create meaningful and personal routines based on each resident’s life story and history.

“Our goal is to provide a supporting environment not only for our residents with memory impairments, but also for their families,” said Eric Walker, Executive Director of Sales and Marketing at IntegraCare, which operates Colonial Courtyard at Tyrone. “We learn our residents’ life stories, and our team becomes a part of those life stories, sharing details with residents and their family members. These life stories reveal to us the person that the resident has always been and still is.”

IntegraCare is headquartered in Pittsburgh. Ten of its 11 senior living communities provide Life Stories Memory Care. Those include: The Willows in McKees Rocks; Magnolias of Lancaster; Magnolias of Chambersburg; The Pines of Mount Lebanon; Newhaven Court at Lindwood in Greensburg; Newhaven Court at Clearview in Butler; The Residence on Greenbelt in Lanham, Md.;  and The Woods at Cedar Run in Camp Hill.

In addition to Colonial Courtyard at Tyrone officially opening its new Life Stories Memory Care community in September, the Colonial Courtyard at Clearfield will feature Life Stories Memory Care when that facility reopens after construction.

“One of the keys to the success of our Life Stories Memory Care Program is our focus on each resident’s personal history,” said Julia Seifried, IntegraCare Regional Memory Care Program Coordinator. “We ask each family to complete a Life Story – a story that every team member then learns as a way to help stir memories, build connections and assist the resident in utilizing their remaining skills as a part of their everyday life.”
