Park Place Outreach – Youth Emergency Shelter Receives ESG Grants for the Year

SAVANNAH, Ga. - Aug. 7, 2014 - PRLog -- Park Place Outreach – Youth Emergency Shelter was awarded $30,000 for their Street Outreach Program and $20,000 for the shelter that provides support to homeless, abused or runaway children and teens between the ages of 11 and 17 in the Savannah/Chatham area.

The grants, given by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA), are part of the State FY 2015 Emergency Solutions Grant, Shelter Plus Care Matching and Shelter Plus Care Harm Reduction programs. After careful consideration of the 290 tedious applications submitted, The DCA awarded $6.6 million to organizations, which will implement 218 programs to serve individuals across Georgia who are homeless or threatened with homelessness. The funding came from the Federal Emergency Solutions Grant Program and the State Housing trust Fund for the Homeless and will run on a July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2015 funding cycle.

“Both grants from the DCA support the work on behalf of homeless and runaway youth that the shelter and the street outreach program serve. Without this money, we would not be able to continue the level of care given to this vulnerable population,” says Linda Hilts, Executive Director of Park Place Outreach Emergency Shelter.

Park Place Outreach Shelter works with individuals and local organizations, having helped over 6,112 individuals through 2013. The shelter provides a safe and loving environment 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for children and teens who self-admit themselves into the 12-bed shelter. The Street Outreach Team has various mobile outreach sites in the community to reach those up to age 21, offering counseling, clothing and personal care items to the adolescents who might not come to the shelter otherwise. There is also a drop-in site at the shelter. Whenever possible, the organization attempts to keep kids off the street and reunify families.
