LONDON - Aug. 7, 2014 - PRLog -- Construction of Dorking's new Waitrose store is nearing completion, with the finishing touches being added as it readies for opening this summer.

On July 9th 2014, KP Engineering [http://www.kpengineering.co.uk/] were awarded the contract to work on the new Waitrose project in Dorking. This complex, multi-million pound project consists of a 23,700 sq ft branch that will boast a two-level car park and offer the residents of Dorking a modern, spacious store with a wider variety of products. The new building is a particularly big undertaking and the construction team will have been on site for more than a year by the time it is finished. Waitrose has grown hugely since its humble origin, back in 1904, as a small grocery store in Acton, West London. It was founded by Wallace Wait, Arthur Rose and David Taylor, with the latter leaving the business two years later. Wait and Rose then combined their names in 1908 to create the brand name that is so well-known today. In 1937 the company, its ten stores and 160 employees were taken over by the John Lewis Partnership. Now with over 300 stores, Waitrose is currently the sixth largest retailer in the UK.

In Dorking, one of their newest stores, work has been commissioned to the company KP Engineering Works Ltd to provide a range of smart new metalworks for the store. The family runengineering company was set up in 1990 and is well-established as a key player in the architectural metalwork industry. KP Engineering's work for Waitrose will include thefabrication of car park and ramp railings, gates and mesh fencing. The railings to be constructed for the car park are not just the average plain, verticalrailings. The main contractors on site have commissioned KP Engineering Works Ltd to create a unique, customised product specifically for this project. Specially designed with theresidents of Dorking in mind, these railings will consist of metal sheets with narrow rectangular laser cut holes. This is to ensure that when customers are standing in the car-park, the homes behind and around the store maintain their privacy. The engineering firm have their own team of CAD (computer aided design) technicians who drew up the designs based on the architects proposals for these bespoke railings before passing the approved drawings onto their fabricators who, in turn, will hand the product over to their installers when it has been made. These railings are to provide safety, privacy and ease of access while completing the store's clean, smart exterior.
