PRLog -- Spam, spam and more spam. Most interrnet users cringe when they hear the word "spam". Recently Mark Mearin ran a series of ads on sites like craigsliist to find out if the spam epidemic was being remedied or in fact growing worse. First Mearin posted an ad for sale section for some furniture. While Mark Mearin did get resposnses from people actually looking to buy he was also bombarded with spam. Computer generated emails were sent in what appeared to be broken english. The phone rang off the hook with consignment shops calling as late as 9:30 pm and not one of them leaving a voicemail. Mark Mearin then went into a "gigs" section on a very popular site and looked for people needing any type of yardwork done. Mark Mearin responded to one ad that was asking for somebody to come cut up and take away a fallen tree. There was no phone number and after responding by email Mearin got a quick reply back via email even though he had left his phone number in his reply. The email seemed to also be in broken english and was giving him congratulations on now heading the maintenance of an estate and also polishing the furniture of the estate. They then asked for him to send his bank account information so they could immediately transfer for funds for him to get supplies. Do people really fall for this stuff? The crazy thing is that Mark Mearin then ran ads in search of and also acting as a lanldord looking for a tenant and he got the same email reply from multiple email addresses and a variety of different categories.
Mark Meairn is contacting the sites to let them know that the spam may be more serious than the webmasters know. We will be keeping you up to date as this develops. Thank you Mark Mearin for your time on trying to rid the internet of spam.
