Allen P. Grunes and Maurice E. Stucke Announce Formation of “The Konkurrenz Group”

WASHINGTON - Aug. 6, 2014 - PRLog -- Attorneys Allen P. Grunes and Maurice E. Stucke have formed The Konkurrenz Group, www.konkurrenzgroup.com.  The focus of the new Washington, D.C.-based law firm is on competition law and policy.  “Konkurrenz” is a German word that roughly translates to “competition.”

“The Konkurrenz Group is the latest chapter in Maurice and my long-standing collaboration,” said Allen Grunes. “We will continue to focus on mergers and civil non-merger work, as well as writing, speaking and testifying on issues of public importance.”

Messrs. Grunes and Stucke first worked together over ten years ago while at the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice.  At the DOJ, they shared responsibilities in several significant investigations, and successfully enabled the United States to recover as a matter of equity—and for the first time in the Antitrust Division’s history—its share of damages in a private class action settlement.  They co-authored their first publication while at the Antitrust Division, “Antitrust and the Marketplace of Ideas,” which was discussed in the New York Times two weeks ago.

In recent months, Messrs. Grunes and Stucke have collaborated on two articles and an op-ed questioning the legality of the Comcast/Time Warner Cable merger, and Mr. Grunes subsequently testified in the U.S. House of Representatives in an oversight hearing on the merger.  Professor Stucke was the recipient of a Fulbright fellowship to teach in China, among other distinctions and awards, and Mr. Grunes was recently named to the Thomson Reuters list of “Washington DC Super Lawyers” for 2014.  Both are prolific authors and speakers.

Professor Stucke, who continues to teach full time at the University of Tennessee College of Law, where he is a tenured professor, summarized the new venture:  “Allen and I are both passionate about how competition policy can impact our society. We are fortunate to already have interesting clients with challenging issues. Our aim is to continue to provide value and exceptional service to our clients.”

Mr. Grunes will be based in Washington, D.C., while Professor Stucke will be based in Knoxville, Tennessee.
