New Paperback Novel - "TailGunner: R3" - Preliminary Manuscript Completed

PHOENIX - Aug. 6, 2014 - PRLog -- For those of you who haven't read the first in this series - "TailGunner: War Defines Us" - Victor Merkel based it loosely on the life of Walter (Buck) Merkel Jr. from 1939 to 1945. Ann Frommer created the heroine, Ilona, inspired by the real life events of those who used courage and pluck to evade the Nazis.

Thanks to all our readers for their patience this year , waiting on the sequel - "TailGunner: R3". The term R3 represents psychological motivations which drive the main characters - Revenge, Redemption, Resolution.

This sequel takes the hero, Buck Remke from the horrors of World War Two to a peace-time USA, but inside a part of his mind, the war still rages on. Ilona, never far from Buck's imagination, guides him through a hazy swirl of failure and success.

Ilona's brother, Istvan, also assumes a major role as Hungarian soldier on the Eastern Front in the early 1940s. Unknown to his family and Hungarian Army Command, the Russians capture Istvan and ship him to a Russian Gulag. With the help of his lover, a nurse, he fights to survive their harsh conditions.

Bob Frommer contributed the story line of Istvan's 1956 exodus from Budapest, based on his own personal experience as a teenager, hiding in the shadows and out-foxing the post-war Russians. He risked imprisonment or worse for traveling to freedom without papers.

Buck's son, Pip, grows up in England without knowing his father. At the start of World War Two, authorities shuffle him about, fearing the bombs will kill Pip and other children. Later, without parents or guardian, the Public Assistance Authority places Pip in an orphanage.
