San Diego Lifeguards Celebrating 100 Years Of Service With This Years Junior Lifeguard Pier Jump

SAN DIEGO - Aug. 4, 2014 - PRLog -- The Junior Lifeguard program is in full swing here in San Diego and with it the exhilarating Ocean Beach PIER JUMP. This is a special day for Junior Lifeguards as they continue to build their,”Skills for Life”. The OB Pier Jump is one of the many events for JG’s to challenge themselves and face their fears. This year the second jump is scheduled for August 11th from 9:30am-3:30pm. San Diego Junior Lifeguards will be jumping the OB Pier in an event that is also open to parents and the public with the following requirements.

Parents/Public Jumping:

Check in 8:30am and 12:00pm

Safety lecture 9:00am and 12:30pm

Junior Guards Jump at 9:30am -11:30am AM session

Junior Guards Jumps at 2:00pm-3:30pm PM session

VIP Jump 1:30pm

18 years or older

Must be strong ocean swimmer with your own fins

Waiver form required

$75 donation

NO FINS NO JUMP

According to Corey McClelland, President of the San Diego Junior Lifeguard Foundation, “This is one of our biggest fundraising events each year for our local foundation. This is a special year with the San Diego Lifeguards celebrating 100 Years of service. We are expecting a great turn out with some of San Diego’s community leaders including San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer and San Diego City Chief of Police Shelley Zimmerman taking the plunge. We will have theLerum Family jumping. Andy Lerum, Lifeguard Lieutenant. was one of the first San Diego Junior Lifeguard instructors, will be jumping with his children one a current seasonal lifeguard, the other a junior lifeguard Intern for the City Lifeguard Service. Also jumping this year will be two junior lifeguards who drowned and were brought back to life by San Diego City Fire-Rescue personnel.

Over the past 20+ years, the San Diego San Diego Fire-Rescue Lifeguard Service hassuccessfully managed over 20,000 Junior Lifeguards jumping the 20-30 ft into the water off the Ocean Beach Pier.

San Diego Junior Lifeguard Foundation is dedicated to the advancement of aquatic safety through the many programs it supports including Waterproofing San Diego which includes aquatic safety education in the classroom, learn to swim for free programs and a day at the beach learning about ocean safety for underserved youth, and scholarships for disadvantaged family participation in the San Diego City Junior Lifeguard Program each summer.
