4.6 Is The Magic Number To Save On Your Renovation

PRLog - Aug. 3, 2014 - SYDNEY, Australia -- Aussies need to compare at least 4.6 quotes to save on their renovation, reveals an analysis of 115,640 renovation quotes conducted by ServiceSeeking.com.au (http://serviceseeking.com.au/), Australia’s largest quote comparison platform for tradies.

“If there was ever a question that comparing quotes is worth the time, effort and energy, the proof is in the data.

“The average home renovation job listed on ServiceSeeking.com.au (http://serviceseeking.com.au/) receives 4.3 quotes. In states where the average number of quotes is 9% higher than the national average, you can save at least 4% on the cost of labour”, said Jeremy Levitt, CEO, Service Seeking.

Victorian residents come off best in Australia, with ServiceSeeking.com.au (http://serviceseeking.com.au/) users receiving 12% more quotes per job (4.8) and paying 4% less for renovation and building labour. The average labour cost for home renovations in Victoria is the lowest nationally with the benchmark pricing coming in at $54.96 per hour according to the July 2014 Renovation Consumer Price Index (RCPI), released quarterly.

Savings are also apparent in New South Wales, where home renovation jobs receive 9% more quotes (4.6) than the national average and consumers pay 3% less.

“The laws of supply and demand apply when it comes to getting the best price on a home renovation. The larger the pool of tradies quoting for jobs, the cheaper the price. If there are fewer people quoting for work, it’s often where consumers get stuck and are forced to shell out more for their renovations”, said Levitt.

Residents in Queensland (where there is 3% less competition than the national average), Western Australia (29% less competition than the national average) and South Australia (30% less competition) pay a higher price for renovation services due to relative tradie skill shortages.

“Where a customer compares fewer quotes, they generally end up paying more. In these circumstances tradies can dictate the pricing. The secret to saving money on renovation is to compare more quotes.

“No matter where you live around Australia, it’s always important to be proactive and compare quotes to save money on home renovations. There are great deals out there and savings to be had, no matter your renovation or your location,” concluded Levitt.

Using a platform like ServiceSeeking.com.au makes comparing quotes easy - customers have access to thousands of local tradies, typically saving up to 15% per job compared to other ways of getting a job done. Most jobs receive quotes within an hour and receive an average of four or more in total. For tradies the news is pretty good too; they have a one in five chance of winning work and can speak to real customers who are serious about having jobs completed.
