Salinas, CA –
The Hartnell College Foundation was awarded a two year, $90,000 grant from The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation for support towards The Western Stage. Funding will support: theatre student scholarships, development of new productions, and youth and community outreach theatre programming. Founded in 1974, The Western Stage (TWS) has evolved over the last four decades into one of the most respected regional theatres on California’s Central Coast and is committed to enriching the culture of its community by bringing together professional artists, theatre students, and community members to produce a dynamic season of plays that enhances the lives of both the artist and audience; developing new works that speak to the history and culture of the Salinas Valley; and providing educational opportunities to allow students of all skill levels to explore and develop their unique talents.

About The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation

The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation helps people build measurably better lives. The Foundation concentrates its resources on activities in education, the environment, global development and population, performing arts, and philanthropy, and makes grants to support disadvantaged communities in the San Francisco Bay Area. "Never stifle a generous impulse," was a favorite saying of entrepreneur William R. Hewlett, who established the Hewlett Foundation with his wife, Flora Lamson Hewlett, and their eldest son, Walter B. Hewlett. Indeed, it was the personal generosity of Mr. Hewlett, who passed away in 2001, that has made the Hewlett Foundation one of the nation's largest, with assets of more than $8 billion.
