Said Debbie, “This is truly a dream come true for me. I am moved beyond words. I was literally in tears this morning when I heard, and I am incredibly grateful to everyone who bought a copy of the book. We dedicated the book to my Dad, who passed away from ALS in 2012, and we are donating a portion of the proceeds to the ALS Association. It was so important for me to honor him and my family’s Greek culture. I know he's smiling down on me and is so happy!”
Both of Debbie's parents immigrated to the United States from Greece and instilled in her the concept of philoxenia, a passion for bringing friends, family, and even strangers together over the dinner table for meals made with love. “From start to finish, the book is filled with the spirit of philoxenia and the Greek spirit of sharing of food and love everyday. One of my biggest passions in life is bringing friends and family together to share a huge, beautiful meal.” Debbie says.
A family affair from the start, Debbie, her husband photographer Jon Falcone, and contributing writer Peter Capozzi traveled to Greece to write and photograph the book last year. Debbie’s mother Froso and her aunt Aphrodite were enlisted as food stylists, cooking and styling nearly every food photograph in the book to make sure they were 100% authentic. Debbie said, “We traveled to Greece to pry these recipes out of the hands of all my family! My Mom and my Aunt really made sure everything we did was exactly right. They would not let anything leave their hands or end up in the pages of the book that was not a perfect and beautiful representation of the authentic dish. I am so grateful to them for sharing their talent and their passion, and we could not have done the book without them!”
Contributor Peter Capozzi, an executive producer and writer in the food and lifestyle space, who began his television career working for Martha Stewart, said, “I’ve known and worked with Debbie for nearly 10 years. From the moment I met her, I was in awe of her passion for food, friends, and family, and she always took care of everyone around her, including me! I actually thought she’d gone to culinary school, but as I learned from her, nearly every Greek woman learns to cook beautiful food from her mother and her family at an early age. It’s just who they are. It’s who Debbie is.”
Endorsed by Cat Cora, Nia Vardalos, Olympia Dukakis, Cristina Ferrare, and Melina Kanakaredes, It’s All Greek to Me marks Debbie’s first foray into the food and lifestyle space. A two-time Emmy® nominee and veteran TV personality, journalist and talk show host, Debbie began her career in 1997 at the age of 21 when Barbara Walters handpicked her to join the cast of ABC’s THE VIEW. She remains the youngest person in daytime history to hold a permanent co-host position on network television. Debbie went on to launch the TV Guide Channel, host the TBS hit series HE'S A LADY, write and sell a movie to Oxygen Network, and cohost FOX's GOOD DAY LIVE. She then joined the E! Network family and began cohosting red carpet events, THE DAILY 10, and also hosted FASHION POLICE and Style Network's INSTANT BEAUTY PAGEANT. After E!, Debbie joined CBS Television's ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT and THE INSIDER, where she covered everything from pop culture trends to the latest hard-hitting news. Debbie is currently a cast member on Hallmark's HOME & FAMILY.
