Plumbing the Depths with Stopcocks Women Plumbers

EDINBURGH, Scotland - Aug. 1, 2014 - PRLog -- Hattie Hasan, female plumber and founder of Stopcocks Women Plumbers debuts as a comedian at EdFringe in the third week of the festival

After working as a plumber for almost 25 years Hasan has become the spokeswoman for female plumbers and tradeswomen since writing her book, The Joy of Plumbing in 2010. Women working 'on the tools' in the trades are just 1% of all tradespeople in UK and in plumbing 0.4%.

Her national company Stopcocks Women Plumbers is the flagship for innovative and flexible ways of working and qualifying as a plumber and stands out in particular by prioritising high quality customer service.

As a spokeswoman in her field she's frequently called upon as a public speaker which has lead her into comedy by popular request.

"The person who wrote the plumbing dictionary must have gone on to have a very lucrative career writing Carry On films" says Hasan "Really, plumbing is a gift for comedy and I don't really understand how come this sort of toilet humour hasn't been exploited before"

Hasan's comedy debut coincides with Ideal Standard's launch of their Ideal Pro loyalty scheme for plumbers on 1st Aug and they are sponsoring the travel and marketing of the show. As one of the 'faces' of Ideal Pro Hasan hopes to be accompanied to Edinburgh by some of their promotional materials including a poster of herself.

"You don't get to call yourself a 'stand up' comedian until you've done your time on the circuit of grimy pubs and clubs, so I'm hoping someone will donate a wc so I can deliver my performance from a sitting position"

From the disapproving murmurs of her male counterparts to strange things she’s been asked to do, from odd items down toilets, fittings named after intimate body parts and the weird and wonderful detritus of those unpleasant and unmentionable acts we get up to in the smallest room.
Hattie Hasan gets down and dirty, breaking taboos as she shares her true confessions. All as part of her mission to save the world one plumber at a time.

Hasan will be performing at Paradise Green Vaults from 19th-23rd August at 1.30pm
