It’s no secret that Silicon Valley and the high tech industry in general is dominated by men of certain races. However the tide might be slowly turning with the introduction of a minority-owned start-up from Atlanta, Eboticon LLC. The groups Eboticon emoji app has taken social media and the mobile texting world by storm.
Released this month, Eboticon™ is a new and exciting interpretation of emoji. The Eboticon app takes all the elements of Apple’s emoji and the GIF (Graphic Interchange Format) and places it in context of an urban experience. The Eboticon™ characters used to complement one’s texting conversation actually move in the text string. Users have access to a full library of over 50 captioned and uncaptioned Eboticons™ with sayings like “I can’t” or “Won’t He do it” to simulate the verbal and nonverbal expressions often encountered in urban communities.
Eboticon LLC is comprised of four members with varying backgrounds. The Atlanta based group came together for this project but plan to create other technology products in the future. “We really worked hard over this last year putting in the extra hours after our 9-5s to make this dream a reality. It’s not every day that you get to work with such amazingly smart people”. Says Antoinette Faggion the group’s Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer. She goes on to state that the group is currently deciding which project within their pipeline they will approach next.
Eboticon comes at an exciting time when consumers are using a variety of methods to communicate through text. Less time spent on the phone speaking and more time texting is a consistent theme throughout all social groups. Sending videos, Memes and GIFs is the modern way to elaborately communicate and convey emotion. Eboticon should certainly continue to cause a stir within the emoji marketplace. An Eboticon spokesperson stated that there are certainly more Eboticon characters to come. The team is excited about the possibilities of the brand and other products that will come from this venture.
