This is the first time that the IIHS has crafted a list of used vehicles that are ideal for teen drivers, but it looks to be a program they are interested in continuing. Research conducted by the IIHS indicated that the leading cause of death among teens is still motor vehicle collisions, and after examining accident reports, they have determined that the type of vehicle has a significant effect on the amount of risk for a teenager.
Another important factor is that used vehicles driven by many teens don't have appropriate modern safety features, which prompted the creation of the IIHS list. Honda models on the list include:
2012 and later Honda Accord Sedan
2013 and later Honda Accord Coupe
2012 and later Honda CR-V
2007 and later Honda Element
2006 and later Honda Pilot
2005 and later Honda Odyssey
Art St. Cyr, VP of product planning and logistics at American Honda said "Enhancing the safety of our customers and the quality of our products is a top priority for Honda,” adding “Our long-term commitment to enhancing safety and durability makes Honda an ideal choice when shopping for safe, reliable transportation, new or pre-owned, for all drivers including teens."
And drivers choosing a Certified Pre-Owned (or CPO) Honda not only receive the confidence of one of the safest vehicles for their teen but also one that has extended warranty coverage for added peace of mind. With the way Honda keeps making some of the safest vehicles on the market, it's likely that they'll continue to dominate this IIHS list.
