New Book Offers Solace, Real-world Guidance To Caregivers

CHANTILLY, Va. - July 25, 2014 - PRLog -- What happens when you are called upon to care for an elderly family member or friend, and you have no idea how to do it? Caring for a loved one can be a scary, exhausting and rewarding situation—and with an aging baby-boom population, it’s one that an increasing number of Americans find themselves facing.

“Confessions of an Imperfect Caregiver,” a new book by Bobbi Carducci, is an honest, uplifting account of the author’s experiences in caring for her father-in-law, who suffered from schizophrenia, age-related dementia, and a host of other health issues.

Bobbi Carducci was an in-home caregiver for her father-in-law, Rodger, for seven years. During that time, Carducci learned to navigate the health care system and support Rodger through the challenges of schizophrenia, Parkinson’s disease, age-related dementia, dysphagia, C.O.P.D., and congestive heart failure. By sharing her experiences, she hopes to help those now caring for loved ones at home. In addition to The Imperfect Caregiver blog, Bobbi also blogs monthly for The Caregiver Space and AgingCare.com.

Carducci (http://www.bobbicarducci.com/) lives in Round Hill, Va., with her husband, Michael. Together they established and serve as co-directors of the Young Voices Foundation, a 501(c) (3) educational nonprofit organization created to mentor young writers across the United States. In 2006 Bobbi was named an Outstanding Woman of Loudoun County for her work in career development. She is also the author of “Storee Wryter Gets a Dog,” a book for young readers, which earned a Gold Mom’s Choice Award for Excellence and A Bronze Living Now Award for Enhancing the Lives of Others.

“Confessions of an Imperfect Caregiver” (284 pgs., $15.95 Print ISBN 978-0-9859367-7-8, $2.99 ebook) is published internationally by Open Books Press. For more information or interviews contact Bobbi via email  bcarducci@comcast.net or via her website www.bobbicarducci.com
