By: Salvation Army of Summit County STUFF THE BUS, now in its second year, collected 1,135 new back-to-school supplies and backpacks last year and the goal is to double the number of students served. The Salvation Army is asking the community to help Leadership Akron and Akron General Health System collect school supplies again this year. The campaign kicks off on Monday, July 28, 2014 and donations will be accepted through Friday August 15, 2014. School supplies can be dropped off at Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, 354 S. Maple Street, Akron. All types of school supplies are needed, especially notebooks, binders, pens, pencils, school scissors and hand sanitizer. The goal of this campaign is to ensure that every child who goes back to school has the practical necessities to start their school year right. All donors will receive a free glazed doughnut for each single packaged school item or a dozen doughnuts for a backpack filled with school supplies. All supplies collected will be given to The Salvation Army for distribution to needy children in our community. Major David C. Dunham, Area Coordinator of The Salvation Army, Summit County Area Services, stated: “I am so excited about this partnership with Krispy Kreme, Leadership Akron and Akron General coming together to meet the needs of the kids in our community. I hope that through their combined efforts and the public’s help, we will double the amount of supplies from last year. This will allow The Salvation Army to serve more families who are struggling with back-to-school needs for their children. About The Salvation Army The Salvation Army is celebrating its 130th year in Akron serving the needs of Summit County.
