July 25, 2014 - PRLog -- Gala Bingo set an official GUINNESS WORLD RECORD™ by playing a live Bingo game with the biggest set of balls in history.

Special guest stars, various TV personalities and soap fans all played a role in Friday's incredible success of GalaBingo's big bingo balls charity event. Taking place on the 18th of July, Gala Bingo's original event provided fans a chance to meet their soap idols as well as witness an unusual piece of history in the making. Set within the former set of the popular ITV show Coronation Street an attempt was made to play a game of Bingo with the largest recorded set of Bingo balls in history.

"We wanted to do something special for the launch of 'Corrie Bouncy Balls,' something involving balls! We love the innovative, educational approach MCAC takes, so we're delighted to work with them," said Alison Digges, the director of Gala Bingo. "And an official GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ attempt seemed like a good way to get everyone's attention. So we organised a bingo game at Coronation Street The Tour in Manchester, invited some ex cast members and raised money for charity, all at the same time! We are delighted with the result."

The scene was soon set for this one off bingo charity event on the well known cobbled streets of Weatherfield. With much anticipation, the crowd watched as 90 of the world's largest set of bingo balls were released from the houses surrounding the set. Alison Hammond of This Morning played the key roll of the bingo host and called the numbers until "house" was called by the lucky winner.

Players at GalaBingo had been buying for tickets for the event over the preceding weeks, for not for charity but a chance of winning the top prize. £10 000 of the proceeds raised money for the charity Male Cancer Awareness. The Bingo balls were officially declared as record breaking by the folks at the Guinness Book of Records™, and the novelty cheque was presented to the MCAC representative, model Rhian Sugden.

After the pomp and ceremony, fans of the show toured the set of the iconic soap and had a chance to meet former legends. Sherri Hewson (Maureen Webster), Adam Rickitt (Nick Tilsey), Steven Arnold (Ashley Peacock) and Shobna Gulati (Sunita Alahan) signed autographs and chatted to fans. All in all, it was a wonderful day for a good cause!
