COME WALK TO STOP DIABETES AT OUR NEW LOCATION!

Come Join the American Diabetes Association at the Dorothea Dix Campus on November 8th!

On Saturday, November 8, 2014, over a thousand people will get together to Stop Diabetes® for the nearly 29.1 million American children and adults with type 1, type 2 and gestational diabetes as well as for their families, friends, colleagues and caregivers, at the Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes.

Across North Carolina and across the country, the American Diabetes Association (ADA) will hold Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes events to raise awareness and money to fight this disease that affects so many.

Walkers secure donations from family members, friends, co-workers and neighbors. These proceeds benefit the Association which funds diabetes research, delivers services to hundreds of communities and gives a voice to those denied their rights because of diabetes. Did you know that diabetes is a major cause of heart disease and stroke? In fact, it is the seventh leading cause of death in the United States.

The Raleigh ADA office has held the Step Out Walk at North Hills the last three years, but now there is a new location! The Step Out Walk will be at Dorthea Dix Campus near downtown Raleigh. The address is 1985 Umstead Drive in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Shea Wixson has been named the Step Out Youth Ambassador again this year. Shea, a 17-year-old, has been living with Type 1 Diabetes for 11 years now.

“Diabetes is a devastating disease that touches us all.  Too many of my family members are affected,” said Paulette Becoat, Step Out Walk Manager.  “Step Out is a day to celebrate our Red Striders, who are children and adults with type 1, type 2 or gestational diabetes. It’s a day to raise awareness and recognize our teams, walkers and sponsors and celebrate their fundraising success. Come join us as we stop diabetes together!”

Most Step Out participants join or form Corporate, Family, Club, School or Church Teams, but individual walkers are welcome too. National sponsors also provide critical funding. A special thanks goes to the following national sponsors: Novo Nordisk, Walgreens, Cary's® Sugar Free Syrup, Equal® 0 Calorie Sweetener and PureVia® All Natural Zero Calorie Sweetener.  National Promotional Sponsors include Kay Jewelers and BeeWell for Life.

Walking is one of the best forms of exercise for people with diabetes and helps to control glucose levels and Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes provides an opportunity for people come together for a fun, healthy activity.
