PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. - July 22, 2014 - PRLog -- Against a backdrop of more U.S. employers seeking cost-saving measures across the border to ensure continued employee benefit offerings, Mexico will turn to the nation’s capital to sponsor the 7th World Medical Tourism & Global Healthcare Congress, Sept. 20-24, 2014, in Washington, D.C., the Medical Tourism Association® announced today.

“It’s no secret that thousands of American medical tourism patients already cross the border into Mexico each year for procedures that range from complex surgeries to dental care,” said Renée-Marie Stephano (http://www.medicaltourismassociation.com/en/officers-staff-locations.html), President of the Medical Tourism Association®. “Now, thanks to sustained investments in healthcare, Mexico is positioned to distinguish itself on the international medical tourism scene by showcasing what many North Americans are already aware of – medical services that are not only easily accessible, but of a higher quality and affordable price compared to other countries.”

The medical tourism industry in Mexico, which is already ranked second in the world, and its states, cities and towns – Baja, California; Yucatan; Mexicali; Merida; and Tijuana among them -- stand to capitalize on the already $2.85 billion in revenue gained from foreign nationals entering the country for procedures and treatments last year.

Almost 12 million international visitors arrived in Mexico last year, among them medical tourism patients lured, in part, by savings of 40-90 percent off the cost of similar procedures at home. Mexico’s Secretary of Tourism said the tourism industry grew by 9 percent from 2013, with U.S. nationals contributing nearly 6.5 million of the total, or almost half of all visitors.

The Medical Tourism & Global Healthcare Congress -- considered to be health travel’s largest education and networking platform – attracts some 3,000 hospital administrators, doctors and clinicians, employers, government policymakers, insurance executives, and travel and hospitality interests from around the world.
