Huntington Resident Bryan Proctor Raises Awareness for Alzheimer’s Disease

What:     Bryan Proctor, a Huntington resident, will lead a team of swimmers to swim approximately three miles (2.5 nautical miles) from Asharoken Beach, across Northport Bay to Knollwood Beach to raise money for Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Center, Inc. during the 11th Annual Distant Memories Swim.

The goal of the event is to raise $20,000 to help support services and programs for Long Island families dealing with the challenges of Alzheimer’s Disease. Mr. Proctor began this swim to honor his grandfather and aunt, both of whom passed away from Alzheimer’s Disease, and to raise awareness about the disease.

When:    Wednesday, July 23, 2014

Opening Ceremonies: 9:00 a.m.

Swim: 9:30 a.m.

Where:   Asharoken Beach

         Asharoken Avenue, Northport, NY

         (Swim ends at Knollwood Beach, Huntington, NY)

Directions to Asharoken Beach:


Take the LIE to Exit 53 towards Bay Shore/Kings Park, Take ramp to Sagtikos Parkway and continue onto Sunken Meadow Parkway, Take Exit SM5W to New York 25A W/Fort Salonga Road towards Huntington. Make a right on Norwood Road. Turn right onto Hillside Rd./Waterside Ave., then take the third left onto Eatons Neck Road. Take the first left to stay on Eatons Neck Road. Eatons Neck Road becomes Asharoken Avenue.

Directions from Asharoken Beach to Knollwood Beach:

Follow route back to Route 25A. Make a right onto Rte. 25A. Turn right onto Centershore Rd., then turn left to stay on Centershore Rd. Keep straight onto Harrison Dr. Make a left onto Arthur St., then a right onto Washington Dr. Turn left onto Wilson Gate, then immediately turn right onto Fleets Cove Rd. Turn left onto Kent Dr., then immediately turn right onto Knollwood Rd.
