Follow on Google News | Aerocom Metals Assist With Project To Develop Hydrogen RacecarCranfield University students required to develop hydrogen race car prototype
By: Aerocom Metals This project was as part of the students’ course, with four groups required to design a prototype inspired by the new Radical RXC. The students at Cranfield University were required to consider a number of core strategies in their designs, with a focus on the efficiency and ultimate safety of the materials used in the prototype. This project was not only supported by Aerocom Metals, but also by Radical Sportscars, and many more. The partnership with external organisations meant that students could use real data and information from engines to advise their own designs. As well as running simulations, the groups complete physical safety and efficiency tests of their prototypes. The facilities at Cranfield University provided the perfect opportunity for students to create innovative and exceptional designs, and continuing investment in the institution means that students will enjoy top class facilities for the foreseeable future. This is symbolised with the announcement of a new £35 million Aerospace Centre, contributing to the ‘competitiveness and prosperity of the aerospace industry and the wider UK economy’. This particular project, involving Hydrogen racing cars, is part of a wider drive to popularise this kind of motorsport. There are a number of benefits associated with Hydrogen-powered cars, including the fact that they release zero carbon. Furthermore, with safety a primary consideration, Hydrogen escapes into the air after a crash, whereas petrol will flow and cover components. Aerocom Metals are delighted to contribute so such positive innovation and are committed to continuing their work with students and young people involved with the motorsport and aerospace industries.
