Chih- Yuan Chuang (WR #7) & Wenzhang Tao (2014 US Open Champion) Headline 2014 Butterfly Los Angele

On August 16-17, two-time Summer Olympic Games host city Los Angeles will welcome the world’s top players for one of the biggest table tennis events in North America. With $36,000 in total prize money, and $10,000 for the winner of the Open Singles Event, the 4^th annual LA Open will be a spectacular event for both players and spectators.

Although the tournament will feature 13 events for players of all ages and levels, the star event of the competition will be the Open Singles RR which will begin on Saturday (8/16) at 5:00 p.m. 2012 Olympic semi-finalist and current world #7, Taiwan’s Chih-Yuan Chuang will headline this year’s competition along with 2014 US Open Champion Wenzhang Tao. Chih-Yuan Chuang has been a part of the international elite table tennis community for almost 15 years, with many accolades to his name including quarterfinal and semifinal finishes at the 2004 and 2012 Olympic Games and the Men’s Doubles championship title at the 2013 World Championships. It will be an honor and a delight to watch him compete on US soil for the first time. For Wenzhang Tao (2776), this will be his fourth tournament in the US; and with wins over many North American favorites such as Eugene Wang (2796) and Thomas Keinath (2805), he will certainly be a player to watch.

With an anticipated 300+ players and 2,000+ spectators, the 2014 Butterfly LA Open will be the table tennis event of the summer for the Los Angeles area. Tournament committee members have been working hard since January to put on a spectacular event and encourage players from across the US to enter the tournament before the August 10^th deadline.
