About the event

Despite great efforts there is still a considerable gap in employment and career progression rates between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and non‐Indigenous Australians. Especially the disproportion between low paid entry level jobs and executive appointments is a challenge and a burden for Indigenous job seekers and students. Education, professional

training and access to job opportunities is only part of the solution. A culturally safe working environment where Indigenous culture is respected, flexible working arrangements and a strong support network are critical to success.

The 2nd Annual National Indigenous Career Advancement Forum 2014 will draw on the experiences of Indigenous employment and training leaders in the Public, Private and Non-Government Sector and strives to provide new thinking on developing career pathways, supportive training and mentoring techniques to facilitate the advancement and retention of the First Australian people. It also highlights the importance of developing cultural intelligence and awareness among the wider workforce and how a supportive and safe culture is the key to employee engagement and long term career advancement.
