Bill Cosby to Help Save Temple University’s Men’s Gymnastics Program

PHILADELPHIA - July 21, 2014 - PRLog -- On December 6th Temple University’s Director of Athletics, Kevin Clark, announced that its Men's Gymnastics team (TUMG) would be cut from Temple Athletics. For 88 years TUMG team has produced a number of successful coaches and athletes.

The TUMG program is the highest winning men’s team in Temple history boasting 14 NCAA individual event champions, 26 conference team championships, three Olympic athletes, and two Olympic coaches including current head coach Fred Turoff. The team has held the highest GPA of any Temple athletic program for four out of the last six years. They are one of the top three NCAA Men’s Gymnastic teams with the highest GPAs. Their commitment to both athletic and academic excellence is admirable and the impact they have left on the school and community has not gone unnoticed.

Beginning in July, the team will function as a club supporting itself through fundraising. In an effort to raise awareness and donations, The Nouveau Image is producing an event featuring Temple alumnus and beloved comedian Bill Cosby on Thursday, August 14th from 7:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. The event includes a concert performance by Cosby along with a cocktail hour, silent auction, and meet and greet for premium ticket holders.

Cosby, who attended the university from 1961 to 1963, will be helping to raise funds to create an endowment to provide training and competing opportunities to male gymnasts. This exclusive one night only event will allow guests to spend an intimate evening with Cosby while giving back and showing support for the TUMG team.
