The Finger Lakes Mud Run at Everest Park: Build It and They Will Come

This field of dreams isn't your average, run-of-the-mill type park.

AUBURN, N.Y. - July 21, 2014 - PRLog -- No, this park harbors a different type of dream, one in which the participants aren't stealing bases or sliding into home base. Rather, they're sliding into mud pits. They're also tackling obstacles, scaling walls, burrowing through tunnels, and getting dirty. This field of dreams is the Finger Lakes Mud Run at Everest Park, and when a team of volunteers decided to build this course, they did come. And they will again—likely more than 2,000 of them—to the 2014 Finger Lakes Mud Run at Everest Park.

They, of course, are mud runners—from Central NY and across the state. In fact, the pull of this mud run's gravity is so strong it's attracting participants from California to South Carolina, from Colorado to Massachusetts and everywhere in between. They're coming not just for an event, but for the experience of a lifetime. The thrill of this event extends far beyond the reach of the day. It's felt in the months of preparation beforehand, and the weeks of exchanging stories and photos afterwards.

But for them to come for this experience, someone must build it. Someone must imagine the obstacles, dream up the designs, take the measurements, plan the concepts, and create the ultimate experience, one that evokes any number of feelings: courage, determination, and, at the finish line, euphoria.

Making it possible for participants to achieve their goals and be mud runners for a day is a dedicated team of volunteers who spend countless hours planning, conceptualizing, preparing, and, yes, building. They take popular obstacles participants love and make sure they're still a part of the race.  They make sure there are obstacles for all types of mud runners, the young and the old, the first timers and the experienced pros, the brave and the not so brave. They look for new ways to challenge participants, to keep the thrill of new discoveries alive. This year, they'll do that with a handful of new obstacles guaranteed to surprise and elate these adventurous souls who keep coming back for more.

Thanks to these volunteers, participants get to experience an epic journey that allows them to conquer any fears they may have and prove to the world that they have what it takes. These volunteers aren't just building Finger Lakes Mud Run obstacles. They're building opportunities, chances, dreams.
