It's Restaurant Week in the San Fernando Valley

Restaurant Week in the San Fernando Valley kicks off today. The first annual event includes 15 locally owned restaurants offering special promotions and discounts.

LOS ANGELES - July 21, 2014 - PRLog -- Restaurant Week presented by the San Fernando Valley Jaycees and Los Angeles City Councilmember Bob Blumenfield has made its San Fernando Valley debut on July 20th and will run until July 26th. Restaurants from across the valley will be offering special promotions and discounts to patrons all week. The effort is being undertaken by the Jaycees and Councilmember Blumenfield to highlight the culture and eclectic tastes of the San Fernando Valley. Restaurants will be providing special promotions and discounts during Restaurant Week. In the coming weeks a list of participating restaurants will be released.

Fifteen restaurants are participating in the first annual San Fernando Valley restaurant week. The all-volunteer effort reached across all parts of the valley to find participants. Said project chair Vahid Khorsand, “we looked to local chambers to reach the mom and pop restaurants.” Several chambers of commerce have joined the Restaurant Week effort as Community Sponsors. They include: Chatsworth/Porter Ranch Chamber of Commerce, Encino Chamber of Commerce, Greater San Fernando Valley Chamber of Commerce, Sherman Oaks Chamber of Commerce, Universal City/North Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, and the Woodland Hills/Tarzana/Warner Center Chamber of Commerce, United Chambers of Commerce.

Also joining the effort are several Valley area elected officials. They include: Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, California State Senators Alex Padilla and Fran Pavley, State Assemblymember Adrin Nazarian, and Los Angeles City Councilmembers Paul Krekorian, Tom LaBonge, Paul Koretz, and Mitchell Englander.

The idea has its roots in the Councilmembers Bob Blumenfield’s Community Action Team (BOBCAT) on Business and the discussion on how relay the message that the West San Fernando Valley is open for business. The Jaycees and Councilmember Blumenfield hope to raise the level of awareness of all the great restaurants and culture of the San Fernando Valley and encourage more local tourism to the area.
