Canada Cartage Transports 300,000 Bottles of Water across GTA in Support of Project Water

Over 150 community outreach programs were supplied with bottled water thanks to volunteers

TORONTO - July 21, 2014 - PRLog -- July 16th, 2014, Toronto, ON – Canada Cartage, the country’s largest outsourced fleet provider, continued its long-time support of Project Water—an initiative that supplies life-saving bottled water to community and social outreach programs in an effort to fight the number of deaths caused by dehydration. During this one-day event, volunteers and sponsors came together to distribute cases of water and essentials—by hand—to over 150 front-line relief organizations, in the GTA.

Every year as the summer temperature rises in the city, more homeless people are at risk of dying of dehydration than from exposure to the elements in the winter. “This life-changing program could not have been mobilized without the support of our community sponsors,” says Jody Steinhauer, Founder of Engage and Change, and the Project Water initiative. “We can’t move the water without Canada Cartage. Hundreds of thousands of bottles of water are transported in one day, and the logistics are complex. Their help is invaluable to the operation of this event, and the overall success of our efforts.”

Canada Cartage shows its support by sponsoring the program, and by volunteering transportation services for the annual event. In total, 5 Canada Cartage trailers carrying 300,000 bottles of water were transported from Nestle Canada to the Home Depot pick-up centre in Toronto, and distributed to front-line relief organizations in one day. The Canada Cartage central dispatch in Mississauga was responsible for the transportation logistics between the various distribution locations GTA-wide.

Paul Hanson, Operations Manager for Canada Cartage, has overseen the Project Water transportation efforts for a number of years, “If we didn’t do this every day, from coast-to-coast, it might be an insurmountable task to accomplish in just a few hours, but our company has the resources and experience to make it happen. We’re proud to serve Project Water—a great initiative—year after year.”

Since its inception, Project Water has placed in excess of 1.8 million bottles of water into the hands of the homeless in Toronto, and surrounding areas. With over a decade of making an impact in the GTA, Engage and Change is looking ahead and plans to bring Project Water to the streets of major cities across Canada.
