More Than 80 Percent Of Employees Bring Their Own Mobile Apps To Work To Improve Productivity

Survey shows that employee use of personal mobile apps in the workplace presents new opportunities and implications for enterprise mobility ecosystem

SAN JOSE, Calif. - July 21, 2014 - PRLog -- WHAT: Globo PLC (LSE-AIM: GBO), the global provider of complete enterprise mobility solutions and Software-as-a-Service (“SaaS”), today released survey results which found that 81 percent of employees surveyed are bringing their own apps (apps not provided by employers) to work to improve productivity on their mobile devices, with only 30 percent reporting that their company is aware that they are using these apps.

While companies of all types are looking to improve productivity and security, employees are taking matters into their own hands for finding mobile solutions that work best for them. Employees appear to be looking for enterprise apps that offer the same ease of use and functionality that is found in consumer apps. Less than half of respondents (44 percent) said that their company provides B2E mobile apps, indicating that companies are either failing to provide adequate solutions for employees to get their jobs done efficiently or that consumer apps provide better alternatives to the B2E apps deployed by the organization.

Key findings include:

·     81 percent of respondents use consumer apps not provided by their employer for work purposes on their mobile device
·     48 percent said their company does not know that they use personal apps for work purposes
·     46 percent of respondents said they download apps because their company does not provide B2E apps and using their own apps enable them to be more productive

Top 5 activities that employees are using apps on their mobile devices for:
o   Calendaring – 69 percent
o   Collaboration – 65 percent
o   To-do list / activity management – 48 percent
o   Cloud storage – 45 percent
o   Contact management – 39 percent

“This survey should be a wake-up call for companies that don’t provide the right mobile tools for their employees. Employers need to be more proactive in offering safe, secure and effective apps which provide the productivity tools that employees are looking for,” said Paul DePond, vice president of business development and marketing for Globo. “Many employees will find their own apps elsewhere which poses a number of security concerns for IT. Companies that give users what they need, when they need it, and in the most seamless way possible, will come out ahead and be competitive.”
