Espinosa | Trueba, PL Instrumental in Forming a New Legal Services Business Model

PRLog - Jul. 18, 2014 - MIAMI -- The law firm of Espinosa | Trueba P.L. has drafted and worked with other law firms to develop a Collaboration Agreement which provides a novel model for legal services in the intellectual property field.  This Collaboration Agreement has been approved by the Intellectual Property Practice Area Committee of the National Association of Minority and Women Owned Law Firms (NAMWOLF) for adoption by its members.  Thus far, 11 member law firms of the IP Practice Area Committee have now signed unto the Collaboration Agreement.

The model created by the Collaboration Agreement is unique.  When a member firm, which is a signatory to the Collaboration Agreement, feels that additional resources outside of the firm would be useful or necessary to adequately service a client’s needs, it would consult with the client and seek leave to employ those resources through the Collaboration Agreement.  If the client approves, the firm may call upon the resources of the other Collaboration Firms as needed.  The firm will centralize the billing and supervision so that the utilization of the outside resources is seamless and transparent to the client.

“Many of the NAMWOLF member firms are composed of or include top talent from some of the largest and most prestigious national and regional law firms who decided to start their own practice” said Jorge Espinosa, Co-Founder of Espinosa | Trueba P.L.  “By using the member firms who have signed the Collaboration Agreement and authorizing use of the Agreement, clients are able to benefit from the talents of over one hundred highly talented and qualified attorneys around the country in a manner that is scalable to their needs without the overhead of a large firm.”

NAMWOLF is a national organization of minority and women owned law firm and of corporate partners committed to fostering diversity.  NAMWOLF requires rigorous vetting of its member firms as a condition of membership. The criteria includes that firms be certified as minority or women owned by a certifying organization, that the firm be rated AV Pre-eminent by Martindale-Hubbell, and that the firm have references from three in-house counsel, including two from Fortune 500 companies.  The Intellectual Property Practice Area Committee is composed of those member firms that are principally devoted or have a significant practice group dedicated to intellectual property law.

“This collaboration agreement allows the participating firms, while remaining separate firms, to tap into each others’ resources when demanded by the needs of a particular matter without each firm having to incur the fixed overhead that would otherwise be required for each to have these extensive resources at its ready disposal,”
said Joel Stern, chief executive officer of NAMWOLF. According to Stern, by signing the Collaboration Agreement, the member firm can scale up its resources on a “just-in-time/as-needed-only” basis with top-notch talent and deliver greater value to its clients in large and complex intellectual property cases including patent infringement litigation, trademark and copyright actions, large mergers and acquisitions and similar matters.
