Carlton Plaza of Sacramento is hosting a special presentation with Tom Arjil, president of AlphaOne Ambulance Medical Services on Wednesday, July 30 that will teach what happens after that call and how to be better prepared for fast-paced 911 situations.
The presentation will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will teach seniors about their rights when it comes to emergency medical situations. The event will additionally teach seniors about what happens after a 911 call, the benefits of fall awareness, the power of a durable power of attorney and making advance decisions regarding resuscitation and the Physicians Order for Life-Sustaining Treatment form.
“Especially as we age, it is important to know the facts about the Physician Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment form and durable power of attorney,” said Lisa Schumann, executive director of Carlton Plaza of Sacramento. “Both can provide an outline or plan for what should happen in the event of a medical emergency or incapacitation.”
The Physicians Order for Life-Sustaining Treatment documents a senior’s conversation with their physician and outlines what medical actions they do or do not want in the event of a medical emergency.
Durable power of attorney for medical care allows a senior to grant someone the ability to act on their behalf even if they become incapacitated, allowing the senior to appoint someone who will ensure that their health care preferences are met.
