Ex-Navy SEAL Opens Newport Art Studio

July 17, 2014 - PRLog -- A navy reserve officer, who has had multiple careers from stunt work to high-end protective security, will share his passion with art by hosting a studio gathering later this month.

The gathering will be held on Thursday, July 31st from 7pm to 10pm. It will be located at the artist’s studio space at 664 Thames Street, Newport, RI near Mama Luisa’s and TSK restaurants.  The artist, David Bruce, would like to invite all those interested in contemporary art, champagne and music, to stop by.

“I just want people to understand my goal of producing time-lasting fine art and to be aided in seeing a circumstantial impulse of applied color I feel is worth preserving” says Bruce.

Bruce’s current series illustrates the energy discovered on the roadways and interstates of America.  He finds strong subject matter implementing use of color and composition. Most of the paintings in this series include moments encountered along divided highways, underpasses and urban chaos - anywhere he can find a collision of rarified light with a stoic subject. He plans to send paintings to collectors via galleries in New York, San Diego, and/or Miami.

With a resume listing yacht security, executive protection, surveillance and more, Bruce has gained incredible opportunities to see many parts of the world. Yet, all trades considered, he has found painting to be the most rewarding. Using his experiences to his creative advantage, Bruce photographs with spontaneous inspiration developing compositions of mystery in the studio.

Bruce has a keen eye and a way of paying attention to detail others may not. Painting allows him to show the beauty in things people may otherwise find mundane.

“There is beauty outside of glamour, even in areas of varying levels of decay. I seek a spectrum of beauty - not always ordinary – with the goal of recording it in such a way others may find it to be so.” says Bruce.

Bruce opened his studio, David Bruce Fine Art, this spring and continues to produce not only for agents but also for avid window shoppers and appreciators of fine art. Bruce has sold artwork locally as well as in New York City, Washington DC, and Florida. You can find articles about his work in the local Newport Naked and in the next issue of Road King.

The studio is normally open Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 4pm. For more information you can find David Bruce Fine Art on Facebook, Instagram, and soon online at davidbrucefineart.com. Bruce welcomes all that are interested in art and local life to stop by the studio as well as the gathering.
