The legacy of the La Costa Open lives on with the 2014 Sk8Kings US National Championships of Slalom Skateboard Racing taking place July 19-20 in San Diego, California at the notoriously steep N. Loretta Street venue – a private road in the city of Oceanside. This event is an ISSA (International Slalom Skateboard Assoc) Major sanctioned event. Event will run from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. both days and is free to attend for the public. Racers are competing in Pro/Am (Open), Masters and Junior divisions each day.

This fourth annual racing competition in Oceanside is drawing top talent including: Joe McLaren of Colorado – (4-time World Champion, US National Champion and world record holder), Richy Carrasco (4-time US National Champion and multi-World Record Holder), Lynn Kramer of San Diego (10-time Women’s World Champion & World Record Holder), Mike Maysey of San Diego (former World Champion), Paul Price from England (UKSSA Champion and former Open World Champion), and Oshean Lehrmann from San Diego (Junior National Champion) among others.

This history making event will be announced by Don Bostick of World Cup Skate and La Costa racing legend Henry "Bad H" Hester. A special La Costa Reunion dinner party is scheduled Saturday evening at the Stag and Lion in Carlsbad for US National racers and La Costa legends will gather to socialize. Press please inquire to cover the dinner party.

LEGEND OF LA COSTA –The local hills of La Costa, California became famous as a skate mecca in the 70’s era of skateboarding. Home turf for a local crew of top professional skateboarders of the day – La Costa was the site of many regular races. The first La Costa Open was held in 1975 – and the tradition of slalom skateboard racing has been passed on through the decades and lives on today.
