PRLog - Jul. 17, 2014 - NEW YORK -- Brenda O’Brien has been rising as an inspirational figure to women by spreading awareness about breast cancer, mastectomies and self-confidence. O’Brien was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 then again just before her “5 year mark”. Brenda began documented the process of going through a mastectomy in 2010. Over the past three years, O’Brien has been developing a project, known as What Lies Beneath Project, to help those who are going through cancer treatments. Inspiring women and men to embrace their new bodies and treat themselves with the upmost respect.
Brenda O’Brien has also authored a book about her experience with cancer, “What Lies Beneath,” and she appeared in the popular music video “You and I,” by John Legend.
O’Brien found that her participation in John Legend’s music video was liberating. In that it allowed her to spread her mission about self-image and accepting the reality of breast cancer and mastectomy to a much wider audience. Brenda offered: “It was an honor to be asked to be a part of such a meaningful project, and I hope my involvement will inspire other women and men to be confident in their bodies and their inner beauty as well.”
In addition to all of the projects O’Brien is working on, she is in the process of designing a clothing line for mastectomy patients, as well as writing songs and recording videos to be used in a multimedia show. According to O’Brien,“I created the project because at the time there were no photographs of what my body was about to go through. The only pictures that existed were terrifying, and the last thing you need when facing breast cancer and mastectomy is to be more terrified. So I had amazing photographers work with me to produce artistic and powerful documentation of the process.” O’Brien plans to continue to spread her mission for years to come.
