ORLANDO, Fla. - July 16, 2014 - PRLog -- New York, NY/Orlando, FL (July 16, 2014) - On Tuesday, July 15, Swiss watchmaker OMEGA held an exclusive event celebrating the launch of the landmark timepiece, the OMEGA Speedmaster Apollo 11 45th Anniversary Limited Edition with famous astronaut and brand ambassador Dr. Buzz Aldrin.  The two-part event included a media reception at the OMEGA Boutique in Orlando located at the Mall at Millenia followed by an exclusive private dinner at the Kennedy Space Center.

During the private dinner reception, attended by Orlando notables such as Dick Nunis, former chairman of Walt Disney Attractions, OMEGA displayed a history ofSpeedmaster watches where several guests had their picture taken with Dr. Aldrin.  In addition, Dr. Aldrin spoke about his partnership with OMEGA which has lasted more than 45 years.  The legendary astronaut wore the OMEGA Speedmaster on the lunar surface on July 20, 1969 during the landmark Apollo 11 space mission.  The OMEGA Speedmaster became the first watch to be worn on the moon.  The Speedmaster had been the official watch of NASA’s manned flight program since 1965.  Since then, Dr. Aldrin has worn a large collection of OMEGA watches including the OMEGA Seamaster Diver which he wears on his deep sea diving trips.

“I am reliving a lot of great memories tonight.” states Dr. Buzz Aldrin.  “It is hard to believe that my long-time friend and colleague Neil Armstrong and I were launched into space for the Apollo 11 mission by a Saturn V rocket from this exact location 45 years ago.”

The OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Apollo 11 45th wristwatch commemorates the first lunar landing and celebrates its link to the iconic chronograph that was part of the adventure. Recalling the colours of the moon and the Apollo 11 lunar and command modules, this Limited Edition timepiece features a 42 mm completely brushed case with a touch of gold. The case is crafted from lightweight grade 2 titanium - a choice that was inspired by the troves of titanium ore that cover the Moon. This timepiece has been produced in an edition limited to 1,969 pieces; a number that reflects the significant year that the first humans walked on the Moon.
