Goodwill Cuts Ribbon on First Mobile Job-Link

Modified RV to bring employment services to five SWFL counties

FORT MYERS, Fla. - July 16, 2014 - PRLog -- About forty attendees braved the rain Tuesday morning to help Goodwill Industries of Southwest Florida, Inc. cut the ribbon on a new Mobile Job-Link. The event was held at the Goodwill Opportunity Center (5100 Tice Street, Fort Myers). The Mobile Job-Link, a modified Winnebago Adventurer recreational vehicle, will bring employment assistance and other needed services to Lee, Collier, Charlotte, Hendry, and Glades.

“With unemployment rates typically higher in rural areas compared to more populated areas of our service area, the Mobile Job-Link will give us an opportunity to serve those where transportation is a major barrier,” says Goodwill Job-Link Manager Wernie Jeremie. “We will be partnering with other organizations in the community so that individuals can come to one location for a variety of needs.”

The Mobile Job-Link & Family Strengthening Service vehicle will provide financial literacy, health screenings, FAFSA applications, and employment services to people who are underemployed, unemployed, or disadvantaged.

Community partners include AFCAAM, American Red Cross, Edison State College, Florida Community Bank, Florida Gulf Coast University, Harry Chapin Food Bank, Hodges University, Invest in America’s Veterans Foundation, Lee County Health Department, Lee County Human Services, SWFL Regional Planning Council, United Way of Charlotte County, and United Way of Lee, Hendry, Glades, and Okeechobee.

The following foundations have pledged their support to Goodwill’s first Mobile Job-Link; Arthrex, Inc., Bank of America, Collier County Community Foundation, Enterprise Holding Foundation, Southwest Florida Community Foundation, The Claiborne and Ned Foulds Foundation, The Martin Foundation, The Southwest Florida Goodwill Foundation, United Way of Charlotte County, United Way of Lee, Hendry, Glades, and Okeechobee, Wells Fargo Foundation, and the William G. and Marie Selby Foundation.

“We are so grateful to our supporters and community partners,” says Jeremie. “Last year we assisted over 37,000 people. The Mobile Job-Link will allow us to grow that number.”

Goodwill Industries of Southwest Florida, Inc. is committed to assisting people with disabilities and disadvantages by providing life-changing opportunities to achieve independence.  In 2013, more than 37,000 Southwest Floridians received assistance from Goodwill, ranging from Job-Link services to disability-accessible housing, career guidance and mentoring programs for teens, and the SWFL MicroEnterprise project, a small business education program.
