PHILADELPHIA - July 15, 2014 - PRLog -- The 6th Annual Pizza Olympics returns this Thursday, July 17, 2014, from 6:00pm to 9:00pm, at Penn’s Landing Caterers.  Fifteen of Philadelphia’s premier pizza parlors will vie for attendee votes to decide the gold, silver, and bronze medals in several categories as well as the top prize of overall favorite slice. Guests will also enjoy a DJ and dancing, raffles and prizes, drink specials, and a performance by the Mummers.  Tickets are $15 and include all-you-can-eat pizza and giveaways from sponsors Coca-Cola, Liscio’s Bakery, and Utz Potato Chips. Organized by the South Philly Review, the Pizza Olympics is a citywide event showcasing the talent of Philly’s pizza chefs. The ultimate social food, Pizza Olympics is more than a competition but an all inclusive gathering bringing together foodies, pizza junkies, and neighbors.  Participating restaurants will include:

* Gennaro's Tomato Pie

* Cacia's Bakery

* Chickies and Pete's

* Downey's Restaurant and Pub (South Street)

* Paulie's Pizza (11th and Chestnut)

* Powleton Pizza (Lancaster Ave)

* Pete's Famous Pizza (21 and Arch)

* Lanci's Bakery

* More TBA!

Pizza samples are all you can eat and entries will represent all corners of the pizza world.  Guests will vote in the following categories:

* Best Crust

* Best Veggie

* Best Creative Toppings

* Best White

* Favorite Sicilian

* Top Tomato Pie

* Best Sauce

“The creativity and execution in creating these pies is outstanding,” says John Gallo, COO of Review Publishing, which also publishes the Philadelphia Weekly and the Atlantic City Weekly. “Last year we had avocado topped pizza, lobster topped pizza, and just about everything in between. You mix those with Italian classics like a white or tomato pie and you have a special night of pizza.”

Accompanying the eating action will be music by DJ Eddy Tully, DJ Russ Ferrante and a special performance by the Mummers.  There will also be a cash bar complete with drink specials to wash it all down as well as prizes to be raffled off.

Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at www.southphillyreview.com.  Tickets will also be available at the door.  For info, call 215-336-2500 or tweet @sophreview #PizzaOlympics
