Ed Sammarco, Grantham University, Named a Kansas City Business Journal Top CFO

The 12 honorees were recognized at a June 27 awards luncheon

LENEXA, Kan. - July 14, 2014 - PRLog -- In the world of C-level executives, chief financial officers are often surrounded in a bit of mystery. To the outsider, they may seem like Rich Uncle Pennybags from the game Monopoly, constantly controlling the budget and saying “yes” or “no” to the purchasing of items for the business. In reality though, they are the force responsible for keeping businesses afloat. To recognize these crucial individuals, the Kansas City Business Journal (http://www.bizjournals.com/kansascity/news/2014/05/23/kcbj-announces-2014-cfos-of-the-year.html) (KCBJ) recently released their annual list of the 12 top chief financial officers in the area. Ed Sammarco of Grantham University was named to the list featuring the top small for-profit companies.

“I’ve always believed that the best managers are a reflection of the hard work provided by their teams,” said Sammarco. “I wouldn’t have been able to accomplish my goals last year, or received this honor, without their support. Each day the team comes into the office with an understanding of what needs to be done to support our students, and how it can best be accomplished. While I’m surprised and humbled to receive this award, I couldn’t have done it without them.”

Sammarco joined Grantham’s senior leadership team in 2011 after serving 11 years at Sprint Nextel. He holds an MBA with a concentration in finance from the University of Houston and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration – accounting major – from Youngstown State University.

This is the seventh year that KCBJ has recognized Kansas City’s top financial executives. The honorees were chosen based on “contributions to their companies’ growth and financial success, their roles in corporate management and strategic planning, and their community involvement.” All the honorees were recognized Friday, June 27, during KCBJ’s awards luncheon at the Sheraton Overland Park.
